We are bursting with pride to share some incredible news: our founder, Sarah Rosborg, has been nominated for an Australia Day Award! This recognition is a testament to her unwavering commitment and selfless dedication to Rafiki Mwema – a cause that has been her life’s work since 2012.
Twelve years ago, Sarah made a life-changing decision to close her successful website design business and pour her heart and soul into supporting the children of Rafiki Mwema. Her vision and determination have transformed countless lives, but one defining moment stands out. In 2015, Sarah’s beloved “Grandma & (the late) Grandpa” Doyle made an extraordinary gift: 14 acres of land in Nakuru, Kenya, to be a sanctuary, a “forever home” for our vulnerable children to find safety, love, and hope.
Today, Rafiki Mwema is a beacon of strength, resilience and care. Over 65 children who have experienced unimaginable trauma now have a safe place to call home. Beyond this, Rafiki’s impact ripples outward: We employ 45 dedicated Kenyan staff members and nurture a thriving farm that sustains the community. With cattle, chickens, and flourishing crops, the farm provides fresh, nutritious meals for the children and staff every day, while also feeding more than 100 street children, via our project Rafiki Mtaani.
Sarah’s leadership and compassion have driven these achievements, but she is the first to credit her team, the board of directors, countless volunteers, and the community for their collective effort. This nomination is not just a celebration of Sarah’s work but of the spirit of Rafiki Mwema—a reminder that kindness, determination, and generosity can create lasting change.
Congratulations, Sarah, on this well-deserved honour! Your work inspires us all, and we couldn’t be prouder. Here’s to celebrating you and the incredible legacy you continue to build with Rafiki Mwema.
