Our older girls (or big girls as we affectionately call them) have a rich and full life at Doyle Farm. They are able to live their lives freely in the knowledge that they are safe and secure. While with us they can be themselves to heal. The journey is multifaceted – from play and therapy to education and up-skilling to become self sufficient. Providing empowerment through opportunity means our children will be less vulnerable when the time comes to leave us. This is one of the key components to breaking the cycle of abuse.

Here we share with you an insight into a day in the life of our big girls at Doyle Farm.

Off to school

During the week, our big girls attend school outside of Doyle Farm. On these days they will wake around 5am and get ready. Once they are dressed in their uniforms they will gather around the breakfast table for something to eat before rushing to the school bus so they won’t be late.

In the evening at about 5pm our driver will collect them from their various schools to bring them home to Doyle Farm.

Weekends are for fun

When there is no school, the girls start their day a little later. Waking at around 6:30am they have breakfast before beginning their chores. Each girl’s responsibilities are organised so everyone knows what task they are meant to be doing and when. Some girls will clean the house while others will collect litter from around their Castle.

Following these tasks, they wash their clothes and prepare their lunch and supper. After they are done with food preparations and the meals have been started, they assemble around the main table and start their homework – revising and studying is a much loved activity.

After lunch the girls get moving and ride their ride bikes around Doyle Farm. Most of them are now perfect cyclists and they all enjoy it so much. They ride with all their energy until they’re exhausted.

To end a busy and productive day, our big girls will shower before relaxing with some tv or by listening to music. They are pretty good dancers now!

If you would like to support our beautiful and busy big girls, we offer many ways to get involved. From donating to sponsorship we offer a suitable option for everyone. We’d love to have you join the Rafiki Mwema family x
