Our team in Kenya care for children who have experienced unimaginable suffering. It is therefore vital they are confident and skilled when it comes to supporting those that have survived significant trauma.
Rafiki Mwema is committed to hosting sessions such as trauma training to ensure the best care is provided. Such events help staff deeply understand how trauma can impact a child by equipping them with the knowledge and strategies they need to provide the best possible care to our children. This helps them make sense of any big behaviours and emotions our children may have, and respond in a calm and fair way.
Recently, our very own Uncle Nick and Aunty Nancy facilitated the first training session of the year. During the trauma training session, the pair provided invaluable insights into trauma based on their work with our children. They also shared with attendees tips on how to recognise the signs of trauma and how to respond appropriately. This led to a great discussion and many questions from all who attended.
We are proud of our amazing team – they are all committed to learning and building their skills at any given opportunity. They are critical to the healing process of our children, helping them to learn to trust again.
