At Rafiki Mwema, days like this don’t come often — which is exactly why they mean so much.

Recently, our children were able to enjoy a full day excursion to Grand Memories Resort in Nakuru North Subcounty, an experience filled with joy, play, and precious first-time moments. It has been nearly a year since our last all-children outing, and for many of the children who joined us in 2025, this was their very first excursion of this kind.

This special day was fully funded by the wonderful Danielle Colley, a long-time and deeply valued supporter of Rafiki Mwema. Danielle has been part of our journey since the very beginning, and her generosity continues to touch the lives of our children, staff, and our founder in profound ways.

A Day Filled With Play, Connection, and Care

The excitement was evident from the moment the children arrived. The day was spent exploring, laughing, and playing together — with swimming quickly becoming a favourite activity, especially for those experiencing it for the first time. There was bike riding, swinging, merry-go-rounds, running freely on the grass, and plenty of shared laughter.

One child shared:

“I enjoyed swimming as this was my first time, swinging and riding bikes and after lunch I came back to swim.”

Another said:

“I enjoyed swimming and I was so excited seeing things I have never seen.”

The children were also treated to a special lunch of fried chicken, chips, and soda, followed by evening tea with milked tea, boiled eggs, smokies, and fried eggs. For many, being served a meal in a hotel setting was a memorable experience in itself.

“I was very happy about food, drinking delicious tea and lunch, swimming and riding bikes.”

Safety, Love, and Belonging

Throughout the day, our staff ensured the children were safe, supported, and cared for — both in and out of the water. Their kindness and attentiveness did not go unnoticed.

“I enjoyed swimming… how staff were kind, serving us food and protecting us against any injuries.”

“I enjoyed swimming, eating and how staff treated us with love and care.”

Moments like this go far beyond a simple day out. They foster emotional wellbeing, strengthen bonds, and remind each child that they are valued and worthy of joy.Moments like this go far beyond a simple day out. Thank You, Danielle 💛

Danielle Colley has a special place in the Rafiki Mwema family. She has visited our farm in Kenya, holds a deep affection for our staff and children, and generously chooses to fund this special day out for them.

Danielle also supports our founder, Sarah, by offering counselling sessions free of charge — support that has been truly life-changing. This care allows Sarah to remain grounded, healthy, and able to give Rafiki Mwema her very best.

Because of Danielle’s generosity, our children experienced a day of laughter, freedom, and unforgettable memories — a day that simply would not have been possible otherwise.

From all of us at Rafiki Mwema — Asante sana, Danielle. Your kindness continues to ripple far beyond what words can express.
