He did it! Abe’s* dream has come true and he’s passed high school with flying colours. To say we’re thrilled for him is an understatement. This is an incredible achievement, for which Abe has worked so hard. An education is the key to a better future, and Abe is living proof.
When Abe first came to live with us nine years ago, his early life experiences left him believing he wasn’t good enough and that his voice was unimportant. Despite his accomplishments and the love he feels from his Rafiki family, he can still struggle with these thoughts. When you feel like this and your mind fights with these thoughts, it’s exhausting and makes it difficult to learn. But Abe never gave up. Even when he was devastated to learn that all Kenyan students were required to repeat classes in 2021, he returned to boarding school in January and gave it his all.

A surprise for Abe
In April, Abe sat for his final exams. We cheered him on proudly. Here he was, at the end of his high school years – a feat he never dreamed of for himself as a young boy. Our boys decided to surprise Abe by picking him up from boarding school. It had been months since they’d last seen him, and they couldn’t wait to celebrate his success. As they drove up to the school gates, there was Abe, waiting for his ride home.
You can imagine the excitement when his Rafiki brothers leapt out of the car to give him huge bear hugs. Abe introduced them to his school friends, with whom he developed deep friendships as they studied together through the long, tough school days.
The next adventure awaits
While taking photos, it finally hit Abe. He had made it! What a thrill to bid goodbye to high school and start the next stage in his life. Driving in through the gates at Doyle Farm, Abe couldn’t hold back his tears. He was home with his Rafiki family.
Abe is looking forward to all that comes next. He’s looking at different tertiary colleges while he decides which course he’d like to do. At tertiary college, he’ll gain a diploma certificate which he can use to enter university and gain a degree. With a degree, he’ll have so many more job opportunities open to him. Can you imagine what the future holds for this amazing young man?
