From uncertain survival after car crash to “accidentally” starting a charity
Sarah’s story begins not in a boardroom or a university lecture hall, but in the middle of a desert — literally.
After surviving being thrown from a moving vehicle at 120km/h in the Nevada Desert, Sarah rebuilt her life with nothing but resilience, compassion, and a fierce belief that every life has value.
Founding a charity
Re-building her life, and body, from the ground up
Sarah taught herself Web and Graphic Design in her hospital bed in between a busy rehab schedule, and helped Kenyan charities with setting up their websites so they could gain support.
This ultimately led to her founding Rafiki Mwema in 2011 – starting in a small rental house with 22 girls, and growing it into a secure home and school for 70 children who have survived sexual abuse and trauma. Today, Rafiki Mwema employs more than 40 Kenyan staff, runs an outreach programme, a daily feeding programme, and a social enterprise for young adults leaving care.
Sarah speaks from a place of deep personal experience, genuine compassion, and hard-won wisdom. Her story is one of building something extraordinary from nothing, and she’ll make your audience believe they can do the same.
