Farm staff at Rafiki Mwema have been busy (well more so than usual). Identifying the need for their own facilities, the team have innovated and created to build their own sanitary space. One side will house a pit toilet, while the other will be dedicated to bathing.
The farm team saw the need for their own dedicated facilities within the grounds for a few simple reasons. The toilet would be easily accessible to staff which would save them time, the changing and bathing room would be handy to clean up after their busy daily work and they won’t have to share the toilets with the Rafiki Jasiri kids who also uses the existing ones.
To raise funds for the project, farm staff sold surplus farm produce such as cabbages and tomatoes. This money was then used to buy the materials required for the build. Our skilled farm staff did all of the labour themselves – some using their mason and plumbing skills while others prepared the materials for use.
Our team on Doyle Farm are such an inspiration. They see a need and an opportunity to improve day to day operations and they proactively seek a solution. Seeing farm staff build facilities such as these is just one of many examples.
