Discover the dramatic desert landscapes of the Red Centre

On this once-in-a lifetime-adventure, you’ll trek through the Australian outback on one of the most spectacular walking tracks in the world – the Northern Territory’s Larapinta Trail. You’ll follow Aboriginal Dreaming tracks and explore the beautiful mountains, valleys, rivers and the dramatic desert landscapes of the Red Centre. On the trek, you’ll make lifelong friends as you share this incredible experience with others who care deeply about our children.

Why we trek

Back in 2019, a group of our amazing supporters signed up to help us raise funds by trekking in New Zealand. It was hard. But it was awesome. Each person pushed themselves beyond their limits, and in doing so found that they were stronger than they realised. There were tears and so many laughs. What got them through some of the hardest parts was remembering why they were there and what our kids have endured. Our trekkers were motivated by their strength. All returned home with full and happy hearts, forever changed by the experience. Incredibly, they raised over AUD$52,000 which was used to build Elizabeth* her own home on Doyle Farm. We named it āhuru mōwai which means ‘sheltered haven’ in Māori.

An adventure you’ll never forget

From the old Alice Springs Telegraph Station to the peak of Mount Sonder, the entire Larapinta Trail stretches 223 kilometres along the backbone of the West MacDonnell Ranges. Over the course of an exhilarating week, you’ll explore some of the most spectacular and rewarding sections of the trail, trekking over 60 kilometres. By day, you’ll walk through the ochre-landscapes of the outback, witnessing the sacred sites of the Arrernte people, and by night you’ll camp under the stars in comfortable swags, falling asleep to the sounds of native wildlife. It’s an adventure you’ll never forget.

The trek lowdown

How fit do you need to be? This adventure is ranked 3/5 for difficulty. While no extensive trekking experience is needed, Inspired Adventures treks are designed for people who are relatively fit. The Larapinta Trail offers a physical challenge, and the fitter you are, the more you’ll enjoy the experience. You’ll be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You’re free to move at your own pace and frequent breaks are taken.

How big will the group be? Inspired Adventures believe small group travel is better for the planet and so have between 10 – 20 people in a group. Ages can range from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you’ve all come together with a very special shared purpose.

Will there be a tour guide? Your group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Depending on the need, an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor might also come along to support you.
