At Rafiki Mwema, the work of supporting children living on the streets requires extraordinary courage, compassion, and persistence. This month, we are proud to recognise Concy as our Employee of the Month, an honour voted for by her fellow colleagues who witness her dedication every day.

Concy is known throughout the team as an unwavering advocate for the street families of Nakuru. Whether providing first aid to injured children, counselling young people struggling with drug use, supporting mothers and infants, or helping children return home safely, she approaches every moment with heart, determination, and deep humanity. Her colleagues describe her as a bold, energetic and compassionate team player who never hesitates to step forward when someone needs help.

Going Beyond the Call of Duty

One of the many reasons Concy was nominated this month is her remarkable work in reintegrating children from the streets back to their families. Through patience, trust-building, and relentless follow-up, she helped many children return home safely during the month. For Concy, this work goes beyond statistics — it is about restoring hope and rebuilding futures.

Her commitment does not stop when her shift ends. During her annual leave, she encountered children in the CBD who wanted to go back home and immediately connected them with the Rafiki Mtaani team to ensure they were safely reunited with their families. This level of dedication reflects her belief that every opportunity to help a child matters.

Compassion in the Hardest Moments

Working in the streets often means facing incredibly difficult situations. In one case this month, Concy treated a severe wound for a young girl living in mtaani. The wound had become infected and painful, but through careful treatment and follow-up, it began to heal — restoring not only the girl’s health but also her confidence and smile.

Concy’s compassion is equally evident in moments of grief. During a particularly difficult period this month, the street community experienced several deaths. Concy stood alongside street families during the burial processes, offering support, dignity, and care in moments when they needed it most.

Her colleagues note that this presence sends a powerful message: Rafiki Mwema will always stand beside the most vulnerable, no matter how hard the circumstances.

A Trusted Advocate in the Streets

Trust is the foundation of Rafiki Mtaani’s work, and Concy has built strong relationships with children and families across Nakuru. Street children know they can approach her when they are sick, injured, or in trouble. She treats wounds, arranges hospital visits, follows up on medications, and ensures children receive the care they need.

She also advocates strongly for their rights. Recently, when someone attempted to remove a child from the street without proper processes, Concy intervened and ensured the situation was referred to the children’s office. Her actions protected the child and reinforced that the lives of street families must be respected and safeguarded.

A Voice for the Voiceless

Beyond her day-to-day work, Concy also speaks openly about the realities of street life. At a recent symposium attended by the Nakuru Governor, she courageously addressed the challenges children face on the streets. Her honesty and advocacy help ensure the voices of street families are heard by decision-makers.

A True Team Player

While her impact in the field is extraordinary, Concy is equally valued as a supportive and dependable colleague. Her team describes her as someone who works with minimal supervision, communicates openly, and always supports others when challenges arise.

Even when disagreements happen, she is quick to resolve them and move forward together — a quality that strengthens the team and allows Rafiki Mwema’s work to continue effectively.

Congratulations Concy

Concy’s courage, humanity, and relentless commitment to children living on the streets remind us why Rafiki Mwema exists. Through her actions, children feel seen, valued, and supported — sometimes for the first time in their lives.

Congratulations, Concy, on this well-deserved recognition. Your work changes lives every single day, and we are incredibly grateful to have you as part of the Rafiki Mwema family. 💛
