Recently, during my visit to Kenya to visit our Rafiki Mwema family, I headed into Nakuru to meet up with our Mtaani family. I wanted to visit the family on Friday, as it’s a day when our dedicated staff devote themselves to educating the family in various ways (and so I could deliberately avoid soccer day).
Watch on YouTube
Witnessing the education day never fails to amaze me; the resilience and determination displayed by both our staff and the Mtaani family members, despite their adversities, is truly inspiring (and I do not use this word lightly!).
I really wanted to provide you all with a glimpse into the work we do, I thought I would go live on Instagram for the day. It was the perfect opportunity to show you the daily life within our community and offer a firsthand experience of our mission. For those who missed the live event, I’ve made sure to upload it onto YouTube so you can catch up at any time. (Apologies in advance for my tears – but no doubt you are used to it)

A very special letter
During this visit, I received the most touching letter that is not only meant for me, but for any of you who have contributed to the work we do. I wanted to share this with you all so you can read direct from one of our Mtaani family about their thoughts on what we do. He read this to me on the day I visited (in the recording) and it will remain one of the most special moments of my life.
The journey with Rafiki Mwema is more than just providing shelter and education; it’s about fostering a sense of belonging, healing, and empowerment. Each day reaffirms the importance of our mission and the resilience of the human spirit.
