We are so very sad to share the news that John has passed away. He worked for us as a watchman and grounds man and showed passion and love for our girls.
John had one of the hardest stories I have ever known and he came to us following the most brutal, mind destroying and sick attack on his family. A proud man was broken and ruined in one night. He lost his home, his peace of mind and it seemed his future following post election violence. Sitting hearing him recall the night his family were beaten raped and humiliated will stay etched in our hearts forever.
We gave John a job because we couldn’t not. He gave us loyalty and love. Our girls adored uncle John – and the grounds flourished under his love and care.
Uncle John had an amazing fight for those who had been badly treated. He told people if they were behaving in a way he didn’t approve! He was a warrior!
John was taken very very sick a while back and even though he tried, he was unable to return to work. Our proud man became a shell of himself. His life was saved a few times by your love and support but eventually his exhausted body could fight no more.
Thank you for the love and support you gave John and his family. He told me that you had restored some of his trust. He couldn’t believe people who had never met him wanted to help so much. People were so kind – some so very very kind and you know who you are
Our Rafiki Mwema staff are deeply saddened by his passing. Our girls will mourn the loss of a safe man. He leaves a wife and 5 children who will be feeling the pain of their loss today and forever
A new star will shine down from heaven- watching his family, our girls and making sure the compound is tidy!
