At Rafiki Mwema, our work is built on the foundation of a dedicated team, where every role is vital to the safety and healing of our children. This month, we proudly celebrate an unsung hero whose commitment and heart define what it means to be part of the Rafiki family. Please join us in congratulating October’s Employee of the Month, Uncle David!

David, our head driver, is more than just the person behind the wheel. He is a protector, a father figure, and a steadfast presence in the lives of our children. His work days start before dawn and often end long after sunset, yet he consistently shows up with patience, flexibility, and a calming spirit. This blog post honours the incredible impact of a man who literally goes the extra mile for our children, every single day.

Punctuality and Dedication Beyond the Call of Duty

David’s day often begins at 5:30 AM, ensuring every child attending school outside the farm arrives on time, with no latecomers. This commitment alone is remarkable, but it is only the start of his day. From school drop-offs, he seamlessly transitions to navigating the complexities of court appearances, rescue missions, and hospital visits. His punctuality is not just a professional courtesy; it is a critical component of our work.

His colleagues share how his timekeeping has been instrumental in ensuring children arrive at court relaxed and ready to testify, a small but significant factor in a stressful experience. In one recent instance, his quick thinking proved invaluable. Faced with an impassable road due to an accident, David skilfully manoeuvred around the traffic jam, ensuring the team reached the courthouse on time. This prevented potential delays in legal proceedings and showcased his exceptional problem-solving skills under pressure. This level of dedication, which often requires him to sacrifice his own sleep and personal time, demonstrates a profound understanding of what Rafiki Mwema is all about.

The First Point of Contact on the Road to Healing

For many children, Uncle David is one of the first faces they see on their journey to Rafiki Mwema. During tense and emotional rescue missions, his calm and patient demeanour provides a sense of safety and stability. He understands the complexity of these situations and his flexibility during rescues, whether at a courthouse or a private home, has been amazing.

This role as a first contact has allowed him to form a special connection with the children. They see him not just as a driver, but as a kind and caring father figure. When a child is sick, no matter the hour, David is there to take them to the hospital. He waits patiently through long court sessions and provides steadfast support to both the children and the staff accompanying them. This empathetic approach extends beyond his driving duties, making him a trusted and approachable figure within our community.

A Man of Many Talents and a Heart for Service

While his primary role is driving, David’s contributions to Rafiki Mwema extend far beyond the driver’s seat. He is a true team player who is always ready to lend a helping hand without even being asked. He has taken it upon himself to care for the grounds at Doyle Farm, where he can be found trimming flowers and planting more trees, nurturing the environment just as he nurtures the children.

This willingness to step outside his defined role is a testament to his character. He understands that every small act of service contributes to the overall wellbeing of our home. His passion for his work is contagious, motivating his colleagues to perform better in their own roles. He embodies the spirit of collaboration and proactive support that makes our team so strong.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Uncle David

David’s actions this month have had a significant impact on our ability to meet our most critical obligations. From early morning school runs to late-night rescues, he has consistently prioritised the needs of our children and our organisation above his own comfort. His reliability, problem-solving skills, and kind heart make him an invaluable asset to the Rafiki Mwema family.

Uncle David, thank you for your unwavering dedication, your patience, and your incredible spirit. You are more than a driver; you are a guardian, a role model, and a true hero in the eyes of the children and staff at Rafiki Mwema. Your work ensures that our children are safe, supported, and on time for every important step of their healing journey. We are immensely grateful for everything you do.

Congratulations on being our Employee of the Month
