Employee of the Month – April 2026
Every now and then, someone walks into a team and quietly transforms it — not through grand gestures, but through steady, wholehearted love for the work and the people around them. This month, we are proud to celebrate one of those people.
Regina — known affectionately as Bobo by the children and staff who adore her — is our Employee of the Month for April 2026.

A Mother figure in every sense
Regina works in boys house, but her influence stretches across the entire Rafiki Mwema family. From the moment she joined our team, she has been far more than a member of staff. She is a mother figure, a mentor, a role model, and a confidante — to the boys and girls in our care, and to the colleagues who work alongside her.
The nominations we received for Regina this month were overwhelming in both number and warmth. Over and over, the same themes emerged: her passion, her boundaries, her calm presence, and her extraordinary willingness to show up — even when it is not her job, even when it is not her shift, even when she could have simply gone home.
Going above and beyond — Every single day
What makes Regina truly exceptional is that “going the extra mile” is not an occasional occurrence for her. It is simply how she operates.
She arrives early and stays late. She waits for her key child to return from school before she leaves, just to make sure he is okay. She mends clothes when she finds a spare moment. She arranges the boys’ wardrobes. She tends to the kitchen garden. She bakes bread, helps with homework, and provides first aid when it is needed.
She steps in to cover shifts during emergencies without being asked, and she does so cheerfully, with the same energy and dedication she brings to everything.

Building Confidence, Character, and Community
But perhaps the most significant impact Regina has made is not in the practical tasks she completes — it is in the human beings she is helping to shape.
Our boys, many of whom have come to us after deeply difficult life experiences, have flourished under her guidance. They speak up now. They love school. They maintain their personal hygiene with pride. They make thoughtful decisions. They express themselves with confidence.
That transformation does not happen by accident. It happens because of someone like Regina — someone who sets firm, loving boundaries, who models integrity and hard work, who listens, who encourages, and who believes in each child’s capacity to grow.

A team-mate like no other
Regina’s colleagues are equally grateful for her presence. She is described as a team player who champions the voices of others, offers guidance from lived experience, and steps in to support her teammates without hesitation. She challenges ideas — regardless of rank — when she believes the child’s best interest is at stake. That kind of courageous, principled advocacy is rare and deeply valued.
One colleague wrote: “You might not know it, but you provide encouragement for me to keep doing this job we love. I always know I can count on you.”
Another simply said: “Bobo, you are loved and appreciated.”
